That Rock Is Gonna Roll (long version)
February 17, 2010
My name is Peter
And a "Rock" is what my Lord said I would be
But when He was crucified
I ran to hide. I was among the first to flee
I spent days and nights alone in shame and pain and fear
Wine brought me no comfort there among my bitter tears
It only drowned the sound of hope my spirit couldn't hear
"Come sunrise Sunday morning, that rock is gonna roll"
I was a soldier
And it was Rome that paid my daily wage
A chore and nothing more
For me to watch the executions on that day
I asked no questions as I heard the orders read
I took my turn at standing guard over the dead
But wondered why it was I heard that voice inside which said
"Come sunrise Sunday morning, that rock is gonna roll"
(chorus)
The Light of Life will walk out of that tomb all on His own
Death will be no more and earthly fear will lose its hold
"Come sunrise Sunday morning, that rock is gonna roll"
I'm Magdalene
The Nazarene transformed me with his gaze
At first light that third day
My friends and I set out to go where He'd been laid
An angel of the Lord sat calm beside the funeral clothes
Reminding us of how we'd heard it whispered in our souls
That He'd return from where His work required Him to go (And)
"Come sunrise Sunday morning, that rock is gonna roll"
Two thousand years
And I'm still a child of God upon the earth
At times confused by cares and needs
At times I have to wonder what it's worth
To watch the world around me seem to spin out of control
With each man for himself as he sets after his own goals
I long to feel the comfort of that sweet voice in my soul
"Come sunrise Sunday morning, that rock is gonna roll"
(chorus)
